Marriages at St andrew’s

Congratulations! We are delighted that you are thinking of getting married at St Andrew’s. As a beautiful listed building, it’s perfect for a traditional church wedding. Below is some basic information of which you need to be aware at this stage.

Can I get married at St Andrew’s?

Christian marriage is a religious and family celebration. There are certain legal requirements that have to be met in order to get married at our church: one of you either has to live in the parish or have a 'qualifying connection'. (Click here to find out what a ‘qualifying connection’ means.)

If you are a divorcee, you will need to meet with Revd Caroline before a wedding could be booked. This can be arranged through the Church Office.

Your wedding banns will be read at the 9am and 10.30am services on three Sundays during the 12 weeks before your wedding. If either of you lives outside the Parish of Barnsbury, you will also need to arrange for your banns of marriage to be read in the Church of England church in the parish where you live. It is your responsibility to arrange this with your local church and to provide us with a certificate from that church showing this has been done. If either of you lives outside England, it is necessary to be married by licence, in which case there is no need for the reading of banns. It is your responsibility to obtain this licence.

How much will it cost?

The minimum cost, set each year by the central bodies of the Church of England, covers the cost of administration, use of the building, and fees for the clergy and Diocese of London. The fees increase if extra elements are booked, eg organist, flower arrangements, etc.

How can I find out more?

If you are resident in the parish or have a qualifying connection, please email admin@standrewsthornhillsquare.org.uk or call the Church Office on 020 7607 4552 to request an application form, talk about dates and find out more.

Banns Readings at St Andrew’s

If you are getting married at a Church of England church elsewhere but live in the Parish of Barnsbury, they will ask you to have your banns read here. You can find out which parish you live in on A Church Near You. We’re really happy to organise for your banns to be read at St Andrew’s - please get in touch with the Church Office by emailing admin@standrewsthornhillsquare.org.uk or calling 020 7607 4552 to find out more.
