Hi. I'm to visit London soon with my wife and daughter, and we plan to be in the area. I just wondered if the St. Andrews church building is open during the day. We enjoy quiet moments in the church buildings of London ... just admiring the beauty, architecture, etc. Thanks, Sam Hendrix

A member of my family tree is JAMES PROCKTER HARDING (born 19.5.1850 christened 23.2.1851 Clerkenwell). I understand from other websites that he was choirmaster/organist at St Andrews for 35 years. He wrote church music, including a hymn, which can be found on the web. Many of his compositions were written for the children's festivals of the Gifford Hall Mission in Islington, of which he and his brother W.Edmund Harding were considerable supporters and benefactors.

He worked in the Inland Revenue Dept, Somerset Hse, London (1867-1909). To my knowledge he did not marry.

His father, James Procktor Harding (born 1811 St Pancras, died 1889 Islington)
was described in census records as a Gentleman, Fund Holder and in properties. He married my ancestor, Mary Jane Hayles (nee Butcher).

If you have any connection to the family or any information or photos,
I would be glad to hear from you.
